CHANDLER, Ariz. – The return of the boys 800-meter sprint medley relay to the Friday night schedule following a four-year absence not only produced the three fastest times in the 83-year history of the Chandler Rotary Invitational, but also two of the top six performances in the country this season from a pair of California programs.

Tyler Harvey, Dario Garrett, Camden Mann and Cooper DeCillo led Trabuco Hills to victory in 1 minute, 33.59 seconds, eclipsing the 2018 meet record of 1:35.97 by Long Beach Poly.

In an ironic twist, only the Jackrabbits have run faster this season among California lineups than Trabuco Hills and Long Beach Jordan, which placed second Friday in 1:33.71.

Long Beach Poly ran 1:32.91 on March 4 at the Griffin Relays at Los Alamitos, the No. 4 mark nationally this spring. Trabuco Hills elevated Friday to No. 5 and Long Beach Jordan ascended to No. 6, both just ahead of another California program in Oaks Christian at No. 7 with its 1:33.75 effort March 4 at the Golden Valley Relays.

Liberty High from Nevada took third in 1:35.63, also faster than the previous meet record.

Faith Lutheran’s Jayden Lightford, Tailynn Fox, Zakiya Hill and Jordan Jackson produced the No. 2 performance in Nevada prep history in the girls 800 sprint medley relay with its victory in 1:47.44, holding off Lakewood High from California in 1:47.93, with Trabuco Hills taking third in 1:50.24.

Faith Lutheran, which elevated to No. 6 nationally this season, trails only the 2019 all-time Nevada mark of 1:45.82 achieved by Centennial High at the Las Vegas Track Classic.

Landen LeBlond, a junior at Millennium High in Arizona, led five female athletes to sub-11 performances in the Dave Shapiro elite girls 3,200 meters, clocking 10:40.94.

LeBlond, who ran 10:38.89 on March 11 at the Shadow Ridge Showcase, achieved a significant negative split by covering the second half of the race Friday in 5:14.0.

Emma Baugh, a senior at Highland High in Arizona, finished second in a personal-best 10:54.82 and senior Kylie Wild of Salpointe Catholic High in Arizona, took third in 10:55.47.

Kimi Cahoon of Phoenix Country Day in Arizona finished fourth in 10:55.66 and Sarah DeLaCerda from Alamosa High in Colorado placed fifth in 10:56.99.

Brogan Collins, a sophomore at Cheyenne Mountain High in Colorado, produced a strong surge in the final 50 meters to edge senior Andrew Gibby of Hamilton High in Arizona by a 9:14.14 to 9:14.75 margin in the Dave Shapiro elite boys 3,200.

Collins’ performance was the fastest by a Colorado sophomore since Valor Christian’s Cole Sprout ran 9:01.53 in 2018.

Jake Drever, a senior from Eagle Valley High in Colorado, took third in 9:16.29, followed by Cheyenne Mountain senior Kaden Levings in 9:17.13 and Salpointe Catholic senior Michael Urbanski placing fifth in 9:18.27. Jeremy Gillett from Niwot High in Colorado secured sixth in 9:18.45 and Highland senior Josh Howard clocked 9:19.66, as seven athletes achieved sub-9:20 efforts.

Chandler repeated as girls distance medley relay champion to cap the Friday schedule, with Lauren Katzaroff, Kumiah Fisher, Taylor Dory and Marissa Hernandez clocking 13:21.82.

Katzaroff is the only member of both victorious DMR lineups for the host Wolves.

Millennium prevailed in the boys DMR in a program-record 11:12.69, with Ben Udall, Jaylen Inghram, Alex Saldamando and Quarton McLeese eclipsing the 2014 mark of 11:25.67.

Millennium became the first Arizona boys program to secure a DMR victory at the meet since Desert Vista in 2016.
