Boys Program Policy
Boys’ Track & Field Tryouts 2012/13
All athletes that did not participate in Cross Country must try out for the Track team.
In order to try out you must have:
- Physical (sports screening)
- Blue- Athletic Clearance Form
- Emergency Card
No forms = No Tryout or Practice
Tryout Period: December 3rd to January 17th
Tryouts are EVERY THURSDAY during the tryout period
Athletes participating in a Winter sport will be given a special tryout once their season is over.
Practice: Athletes with completed paperwork may practice with the track team during the tryout period.
Athletes coming from Football may practice during 7th period, M-F.
Athletes that did not participate in a Fall sport may practice from 3:00-4:00 Monday – Friday.
Practice is Voluntary
Making the Team:
Each event coach will establish a qualifying mark or time to make the team for their event area. Qualifying standards are different for each grade level (Frosh-Soph and Varsity).
Example: Long Jump FS = 16ft, V = 19ft
Example: 200m Dash FS = 24sec, V = 22sec
Each event coach will have a Time Trial or Jump Off Every Thursday during the tryout period.
You must meet the qualifying standard during a Thursday tryout in order to make the team.
Events: Tryouts will be held for the following event areas:
Sprints & Hurdles (100m, 200m, 400m, 110m HH, 300m LH) – Coach Griswold
Distance (800m, 1600m, 3200m) – Coach Clemons
Horizontal Jumps (Long Jump & Triple Jump) – Coach Henry
High Jump – Coach Lee
Throws (shot put & discus) – Coach Clemons
Pole Vault – Coach Alpizar
